What does an insurance broker do?

An insurance broker compares the options on the market, explains the terms of each proposal and stays with the client before, during and after a claim. At Sierra Seguros that work is done by Rita Sierra, a SUSEP-registered broker with more than 15 years of practice in Rio de Janeiro. The broker mediates the relationship with the insurer, but coverage, acceptance of the proposal and amounts are always determined by the insurer, according to the policy.

How much does it cost to get a quote from Sierra Seguros?

The quote is free and with no obligation. The broker is paid by the insurer only when the policy is actually taken out — the price of the policy is the same, with or without a broker in between. You pay only for the insurance, and only if you decide to go ahead.

How long until I get my quote?

The turnaround is up to 24 business hours from the moment your information is received. Simpler cases, such as auto or travel insurance, are usually answered the same day. This timeframe covers sending the quote — reviewing and accepting the proposal is up to the insurer and may take longer.

How does the quote process work, from first contact to signing?

There are four steps: an initial conversation on WhatsApp, an analysis of your profile, the quote sent within 24 business hours, and signing up with help through the paperwork. At the third step you receive a side-by-side comparison of the selected insurers, with each option clearly explained. There is no obligation: you decide whether to go ahead after seeing the proposals.

What does auto insurance cover?

Auto insurance usually protects against robbery, theft and collision, with items such as a courtesy car, 24h roadside assistance and third-party liability coverage. What counts, however, is always what is written in the policy you take out: coverage, limits and exclusions vary according to the insurer, the plan and your usage and driving profile. During the quote, every item is explained before you sign, so you know exactly what you are buying.

How does it work if I need to file a claim?

You tell Rita first, and she walks you through the steps, opens the claim with the insurer and follows every stage through to resolution. The idea is that you don't have to sort it out on your own with the insurer's call center. Assessing the claim, deciding on the settlement and setting the timeframes are the insurer's responsibility, according to the terms of the policy.

Does Sierra Seguros serve clients outside Rio de Janeiro?

Yes. Although based in Rio de Janeiro, Rita serves clients throughout Brazil remotely — by WhatsApp, video or phone, with full legal certainty. In-person service is in Rio, and hours are Monday to Friday from 9am to 7pm and Saturdays from 9am to 1pm.

Can I renew an insurance policy I already have with Sierra Seguros?

You can, and it is worth it. At renewal Rita redoes the comparison across the partner insurers, to check whether your current policy is still the best value for your profile. Renewal terms, coverage and amounts are set by the insurer.
